The 1947 S/S RPM "repunched
mintmark" is a interesting example of
one mintmark style punched over
another.   In 1947 two mintmark styles
were used at the San fransisco mint.
They were the "Sans Serif" and "Serif"
mintmarks.  The "Serif" mintmark is also
referred to as the "Trumpet Tail" style.

It is believed that a "Sans Serif"
mintmark was punched directly over a
"Serif" mintmark.

This variety is listed in CONECA's top
100 RPM's.  It is also listed in the
Cherrypicker's Guide.
